Kleypas

I am no longer a Kleypas virgin.

I read Devil in Winter.

There are those, and I'm not naming names just now, who are on a campaign to get every living soul who blogs about romance novels to read Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas. I haven't done that yet, so I'm still open, on that front, to being harassed, I suppose. (g)

Very much liked Devil in Winter. The weather acts as a force to get these two characters together--they share a carriage during winter--and that was great fun to read.

I'll write something more detailed later--especially since I now find myself rereading Laura Kinsale's Seize the Fire. The hero and heroine have tossed up on the Falklands, with no supplies. Weather is an important force here too.

And it's raining--which makes me burrow under my comforter.

Has anyone noticed that it's APRIL???? Cause it don't feel like it here.

I am pretending it isn't April yet.

DiW is wonderful isn't it! Glad you liked it. Of course how long are you going to resist the powers of K? You know read that DoY book ;).

StF! One of my fave Kinsale books.

Must resist pull to reread.

I'm not trying to rub it in but we are having the warmest winter on record up here in Ontario, Canada. I like when the weather is cool enough for a jacket and warm enough to roll the window down for some fresh air.

Geeezzz, I hope I didn't just jinx us!

Our lovely April weather just turned to cold, yukky rain.

I swore off Kleypas, but might have to renege on that for DiW. Since i hear it's good an all.

I loved Seize The Fire, too.

Sybil: Anyone want to clue me in as to WHY Dreaming of You is the best think since bottled milk? Cause I'm really liking my Kinsale--she's a tough act to follow.

Cindy: I love you and everything. But I don't think I can quite stand to hear about lovely weather just now. Lie to me. Tell me it's raining.

Megan: You swore off Kleypas? Really? Is there more there?

oh well that is really a kristie question...

I thought DiW was better. LOL but DoY is a close second. Derek is more into beating himself up over never being good enough for Sara where Sebastian is more in your face and trying to hold on to his evoooolness. And Sebastian is a peer where Derek... well he is a gutter rat. And honestly that was a reason I put off reading it. But it does work and you feel for Derek, for who he was, who he became, what he is willing to do for Sara and where he is at the end of the DoY.

The biggest thing is that Derek and Sebastian are different men. So it isn't like LK took DoY hero template and switch names. Sebastian says it best when he tells Evie: "Morality is only for the middle classes, sweet. The lower class can't afford it, and the upper classes have entirely too much lesiure time to fill."

You get the feeling that Derek might not have been the man he was if he had been born a 'peer' where Sebastian was playing his part. "... My responisbility, on the other hand, is to pass my time in profligate idleness and wait for him to die. I have been doing my job splendidly. The duke, however, has not."

But it is interesting to see how both men, end up almost in the same spot by they end of their stories. Honestly one of the few things I would have liked to see differently in DiW, would have been for Sebastion to have never felt his past was too 'dirty' for Evie. But at the same time it does make for one hell of a last scene between S&E.

And yes I have read DiW far too many times now ;).

Here's my official post 'encouraging' the reading of Dreaming of You. I say official, because you did make it onto my list. And Megan - hmmmmmm. She doesn't say whether she has read DOY does she???? Although she is reading another one of my faves, so I'll let her be (for now - bwaaahhhhhaaaa) (seriously - I think she has read it though)
As to why you should give DOY a try? Well, I just reread the book myself last week and as soon as I get some time will be doing a blog on it. Simple answer is Derek Craven. But there's more to it than that - but that is for when I have time :)

Welcome to the Kleypas Klan then! The more posts I read of DiW, the more impatiently I'm waiting to get my hands on it. These are the times when I wish I was living in the other side of the Pacific.

Hmmm ... should I wreak havoc here by recommending another Kleypas? ;)
