I was trying to point this out to Dear Butcher the other day when we were at the movies, but he doesn't have instant recall of dear Errol's features, so I wasn't getting anywhere.
Errol usually is shown grinning slyly, but I managed to find a fairly serious picture of him too. Gaze upon the swashbuckler:
OK, now look at a publicity still of Orlando Bloom in Elizabethtown. I tend to think of him like this, generally. Head tipped back, cute grin, and a small chin, a little pointed.

The balance of his face looks different. Now, seeing them side by side, it's not as dramatic, I admit, as it seemed in the theater, however, I'm not giving up yet. I can't get over the idea that publicity has posed Orlando to resemble Fairbanks, Douglas, and Flynn.
To my eyes, it looks as if Orlando has his mouth open but his lips closed. I swear they're trying to give him a longer face and more prominent chin. (Maybe it's only the mustache?)
It's just an impression I have, hard to say, really.
Oh god, how many more days? Tick. Tick. Tick.

Not long now though. I'm going to have to put the DVD of the first one to refresh myself. I think I saw it 4 times at the theatre and I don't know how many times on DVD :)
I don't know. I can both see the resemblance and not see it. Mark says the movie poster of Orlando does strongly look like Errol, though. Thing is, I'm not sure it looks like Orlando, so maybe it is a makeup thing they're playing on us. And is it just me or are his irises almost red?
Kristie, if you like, I can send my daughter to your house so that she can play the theme song on the flute for you. It's very stirring.
Bev, yeah, I *feel* as if he looks like Errol, but I'd have a hard time proving it conclusively. There's a lot of makeup, lighting, and airbrushing going on in that poseter.
Er, go to my blog and follow the link to The Midnight Hour post about Captain Jack and tell me if you don't really see the resemblance to Errol in that picture of Will Turner. Wow. I almost did a double-take considering what we'd been discussing here. They are definitely playing up that image.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'm right at this point. Because he's kind of not looking like Orlando Bloom anymore--at least in the stills. In the preview, etc., he's himself.
