Election results

Yesterday was election day.

I have been working myself into an anxiety-induced depression during this campaign. I support two candidates for three seats, and we kept throwing in the third name whenever we were asked who else to vote for. (Three open seats.)

I currently sit on the board, so I can only do so much campaigning before it begins to look odd. But I helped set up calendars, organize volunteers, update spreadsheets, collate and highlight precinct lists. Any grunt job I could get my hands into.

Last night at around midnight we learned who won.

WE DID!!!!!!!

ALL THREE!!!!!

Whooo, yeah!

And although I am gracious in public what I will say in my little blog is, NA NA NA NA NAAAA NA!

And to crib a delightful comment penned by "A teacher" this morning on a completely rancid local message board where scum post anonymously and smear their opponents with personal slurs, "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!"

Victory is very sweet.

Ahem. Back to your regularly scheduled lunacy.

YAY! I am pleased for you, and am biting my tongue trying not to ask what type of candidate won. Bite, bite, bite.

YAY, good work!

The three who won ran on a campaign of Open Government, Addressing the current problem of Low Staff Morale, Respect for the Teachers, and the need to pass a local Parcel Tax in the future to garner more revenue.

The "other side" said that we already have open government, and to discuss it is a "smokescreen." There were many calls to "move on" and to "work towards unity." (Note here--The majority would very much like the minority to vote with them so as to have unanimous votes. Hence, we, the minority, are divisive.) One candidate who ended up winnning asked, "Move on to what? Where are you going?" There were many personal attacks on one incumbent. (Disclosure: I am often locally portrayed as his puppet. If this is true, I await with baited breath for the pay off. Perhaps he will hire me a gardener and a house-cleaner? Why would I put up with this craziness? Nookie? Chocolate? Free caffeine?)

The major names on the "other side" are very focused on the budget, which is appropriate. But they push so hard for union concessions in order to "balance" the under-funded budget that it comes across as teacher-bashing. It's a tricky dance, to be fiscally responsible, respect your employees, and resist the urge to point fingers. Ultimately, they came across as mean, although I don't think the individual candidates were anything but good-hearted.

I think that sums up the differences. But not briefly.

Actually, I'd probably be someone's puppet for free caffeine.

It sounds as if the right agenda won. Congratulations, again!
